Architect of the Capitol Wood Crafter (CNC) Assistant Supervisor in Washington DC, District Of Columbia

Summary This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Office of the Chief of Operations, Superintendent House Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent Tenant Services Division, Carpentry Branch. Incumbent will be Wood Crafter (CNC) Assistant Supervisor sharing responsibility with Wood Crafter (CNC) Supervisor assigning, directing and reviewing work of subordinates; evaluating performance, planning, scheduling, coordinating work operations; solving problems related to the work performed. Responsibilities The tour of duty hours may range from 4:45am to 4pm. This position is emergency essential - Depending on the type of emergency the employee may be required to report to work during emergency situations. Functions as a full assistant to the Wood Crafter Supervisor with full authority to act on all matters for which the superior is responsible. Shares responsibility with the Wood Crafter Supervisor for the quality and quantity of the CNC work performed by subordinates. Performs administrative and technical supervisory functions for subordinates. Assigns duties and evaluates performance. Makes recommendations to the Wood Crafter Supervisor concerning personnel matter such as employment and promotion, initiates disciplinary actions; schedules and approves leave; and keeps time and attendance records. Utilizes computer-assisted facilities management system (TMA), AOC’s specialized maintenance management software, to ensure that preventive maintenance schedules are followed and that work orders are assigned in a timely manner. Responsible for utilizing a thorough knowledge of and compliance with applicable AOC and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner and to initiate or take corrective action on unsafe conditions in managed areas. Uses, creates designs and fabricates high-grade cabinetry, furniture, woodwork and signs via various CNC machinery. Downloads from specialized WEB sites, such as Google Sketch-Up and generates detailed plans, specifications and schematics to manufacture unique furniture for Congressional Members. Uses a thorough knowledge of wood supplies and precision wood working methods and their alternatives, plans and lays out work from specifications, blueprints, rough sketches and verbal instructions, taking into consideration the tooling, durability, cost, strength and appearance characteristics of a variety of softwoods, hardwoods, plywood, veneers and wood substitutes for projects. Makes and repairs high grade wooden items such as cabinetry, furniture and decorative woodwork for use in the House Office Buildings. Uses a thorough knowledge of wood supplies and precision woodworking methods and their alternatives, plans and lays out work from specifications, blueprints, rough sketches and verbal instructions, taking into consideration the tooling, durability, cost, strength and appearance characteristics of a variety of softwoods, hardwoods, plywood, veneers and wood substitutes. Work involves construction, alteration, repair or modification of items and structures (such as wood and metal stud wall framework, walls, moldings, wood flooring, suspended ceilings, dry wall, doors, door frames, finished paneling, windows, counter tops, interior and exterior trim) where accuracy, spacing and fit are essential to structural soundness and appearance.
