New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG), a subsidiary of New Jersey Resources is seeking a Pipeline Integrity Technician III to monitor and perform inspections of gas pipelines within the scope of accepted company policies as well as state and federal regulatory guidelines. Perform pipeline integrity assessment activities and cathodic protection (CP) monitoring surveys of underground steel pipelines in accordance with company standards and state and federal regulations.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Prepare work order package and obtain construction and road opening work permits from State, Townships and Counties to complete TIMP and CP related work orders.

  • Prepare purchase order requisitions for materials and services needed for Pipeline Integrity work.

  • Perform pipeline assessment and indirect inspection of pipeline and assist senior department personnel with direct inspection of pipe, collect data as required for IMP programs.

  • Knowledge of inline inspection tools and preparing line segments for inspection

  • Complete NJNG transmission system CP surveys.

  • Complete CP rectifier system inspections per code requirements.

  • Troubleshoot identified non-operational rectifier units and determine repair requirements.

  • Perform atmospheric inspections of exposed pipelines.

  • Troubleshoot CP systems not meeting criteria during surveys and determine remediation requirements.

  • Perform inspections of CP system installation, including guiding company contractors during CP installation process for compliance of NJNG S.O.M.E.

  • Understanding of AC interference on pipelines and safety measures when testing and mitigating interference.

  • Have familiarity with Allegro data loggers for periodic surveys and PCS software for managing CP data.

  • Lend technical support during installation of cathodic protection devices, including the installation of rectifiers, remote monitoring units, test stations, bonds and anodes.

  • Oversee rectifier RMU installations on NJNG systems.

  • Support System Enhancement departments in completing GIS surveys.

  • Review completed work order packages for complete as-built, materials used and posting in the NJNG GIS are accurate and complete.

  • Maintain Operator Qualification as required.

  • Maintain a safe work environment by following company approved safety requirements and using company issued safety equipment.

Position Specifications:

  • Two-year Associate’s degree in a related field is preferred.

  • CP related work experience with Association for Materials Protection & Performance (AMPP, formerly NACE) certification is required.

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in integrity assessments, direct examinations/repairs. Complete cathodic protection surveys including steel pipe coating inspection, atmospheric monitoring and repair of cathodic protection system.

  • Must be proficient with GIS/GPS and in the use of computer, including the use of basic software such as MS Word, MS Excel.

  • Must be able to read and understand engineering drawings.

  • Must have basic knowledge of natural gas pipeline systems, including, familiarity with the hazards of natural gas.

  • Individual must meet "Operator Qualifications" requirements as defined under 49CFR 192 Subpart N.

This position is deemed safety-sensitive under the U.S. Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration’s regulations. Among other things, employees in this position are subject to drug and alcohol testing, including pre-employment testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing and post-accident testing. PHMSA-required drug tests include testing for marijuana. The use of marijuana, or testing positive for marijuana, is disqualifying and will lead to removal from performing safety-sensitive functions as well as disciplinary action.
