Sensata Technologies, Inc. Graduate Failure Analysis Engineer in Swindon, United Kingdom

As a Graduate Failure Analysis Engineer, you will be responsible for investigating and analysing product failures to identify the root causes and develop appropriate solutions. Your role will involve working closely with cross-functional teams to analyse failed components and develop testing methodologies to ensure product reliability and performance. This is an entry-level position, suitable for recent graduates with a strong background in engineering and a passion for problem-solving and analysis.

General Responsibilities

  • Participates in the evaluation ofthe electrical and mechanical characteristics of systems and/or integrated circuits, components, sub-components and systems to determine the cause of failure, including the verification of analogue and digital performance.

  • Assists with analyzing failure reports and recommends corrective action. Develops methods, processes, procedures and equipment that will improve the failure analysis process and/or reduce failures.

  • Participates in product returns and Conducts product failure analysis.

  • Meet and exceed internal and external Service Level Agreements.

  • Maintain daily productivity/workflow reports.

  • Maintain, review and update process documentation on a regular basis.

  • Participates in reviewing current processes on a regular basis and implements new processes as required.

  • Ability to read blueprints, specifications and engineering changes.

  • Ability to interact with employees at all levels.

Experience / Qualifications

  • A university degree required (i.e. Bachelors degree) or equivalent relevant work experience.

  • Must be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with a demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands.

  • Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation.

  • Strong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve results.

  • Strong personal and professional ethical values and integrity.

  • Holds self-accountable to achieving goals and standards.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).

  • Strong interpersonal & collaboration skills to work effectively with all levels of the organization including suppliers and/or external customers.

General Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed analysis of failed components and systems to identify root causes of failures.

  • Utilize a range of non-destructive techniques including bench electrical testing, optical and scanning electron microscopy and destructive techniques including package decapsulation to investigate the failure mechanism.

  • Operate and maintain where applicable electrical test equipment and laboratory failure analysis equipment and develop techniques to support physical and electrical failure analysis activities.

  • Analyse data collected from failure analysis investigations and testing activities to generate insights and conclusions. Prepare comprehensive reports summarizing findings, including root cause analysis, failure modes, and recommended corrective actions.

  • Maintain accurate records of failure analysis investigations, test results, and methodologies. Create and update documentation such as failure analysis reports, work instructions, and standard operating procedures.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams including design engineers, quality engineers, and operations team personnel to exchange information, provide technical support, and contribute to product improvements.

  • Work with External Failure Analysis Laboratories where required to arrange additional testing and use of more specialised failure analysis techniques.

  • Support the provision of failure analysis KPI metrics in-line with the industry standard included Quality Management System.

  • Identify opportunities for process and product improvements based on failure analysis findings and testing result and support continuous improvement activities with suppliers.

  • Stay up to date with the latest industry trends, failure analysis techniques, and testing methodologies. Participate in professional development activities such as conferences, workshops, and training programs to enhance your knowledge and skills.

Experience / Qualifications

  • A university degree in a technical subject (Physics and/or Electronics preferred)

  • A relevant placement year is preferred but not essential.

  • Knowledge of electrical testing would be beneficial.
