Casa de Amparo Clinical Trainee in San Marcos, California

GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the supervision of the Director of Programs, Associate Director of Programs, Clinical Coordinator and/or a Licensed Therapist, this position will assist in managing the mental health treatment of clients. Will direct aspects of client’s individual, group and family therapy, providing information, advocacy and collaborative treatment planning within the agency and in cooperation with other agencies.

MAJOR TASKS:

  • Provide comprehensive clinical case management and appropriate therapeutic services for assigned clients.

  • Assist in maintaining all clinical charts including: Community Care Licensing forms, documentation of external services, contact sheets, and transition dispositions.

  • Pursue and provide individual, group, and family therapy and parent education, as approved and appropriate.

  • Assist in assessing client’s needs, strengths and level of functioning; assist in establishing a psychosocial and needs assessment, diagnosis and treatment plan.

  • Assist in completing required county and Casa de Amparo documentation.

  • Participate in Child and Family Team meetings, as appropriate.

  • Assist in providing case management and therapeutic services that are knowledgeable and respectful of differing cultures and the norms that exist within various cultures.

  • Consult with designated licensed supervisor regarding assessment and treatment of clients.

  • Consult with collaborative partners in the best interest of each client, as necessary and appropriate (i.e. County Social Workers, health care professionals, school staff, Regional Center service providers, etc.).

  • Consult and communicate with the client’s natural support system, as appropriate.

  • Participate in weekly individual and/or group supervision.

  • Attend all staff meetings and in-service trainings as required.

  • Observe client’s activities and interactions, interact with clients multiple times per week, and regularly review progress notes.

  • Assist with crisis assessment and behavioral interventions, as appropriate.

  • Transport clients to appointments using agency and/or personal vehicle, a needed.

  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

EFFECT ON END RESULT: Under the direction of a licensed supervisor, this position assists in assuring that therapeutic services are provided in a trauma-informed and culturally respectful manner to support the care, treatment, and services of clients.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Enrolled in master’s level study leading to MFT, SW or LPCC licensure.

  • Must be able to be associated with Casa de Amparo through Community Care Licensing (CCL), which typically includes clearance by FBI, DOJ and CACI.

  • Knowledge of developmental needs of children ages 0-18 years throughout the developmental stages.

  • Must possess strong interpersonal, time-management, organizational, written/verbal communication skills, and intermediate computer literacy. English proficient/Bilingual Spanish preferred. Must have ambulatory, auditory and visual skills to observe residents and staff.

  • Must have the physical ability to participate in activities and perform related physical skills, including, but not limited to, crouching, lifting 50 pounds, crawling on hands and knees, and walking up and down stairs.

  • Ability to comply with all Trainee requirements including, but not limited to CPR/Pediatric 1st Aid, physical, TB and drug screen clearance, clear DMV record and approval from insurance carrier to drive agency vehicles. Must provide proof of immunization against influenza, pertussis, and measles.

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
