Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a business development professional who will support our growing Science and Technology practice. This is an intermediate level Business Development role. The ideal candidate will have established relationships with clients in the region, but we are happy to consider applicants who do not have established relationships with local clients too. Leads with opportunities in communities we serve. This position is in San Francisco, CA.

This position is responsible for new business growth in current and potential markets. In this role, the Business Development Lead works jointly with key leaders and Science and Technology Sector Project Managers. You will develop and implement approaches for identifying clients and opportunities and will support business development activities including market research, positioning, networking, relationship development, proposal content development, teaming, and negotiations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support sustained growth in revenue within the Business Center by orchestrating and supporting the S&T Principals and other senior staff in business development and marketing activities.

  • Act as a catalyst to coordinate and support the marketing and business development activities for Science and Technology staff for projects locally and nationally.

  • Be a team builder for marketing and business development activities so when opportunities arise, the team is prepared to react as efficiently and effectively as possible.

  • Establish relationships and coordinate with business developers, marketers and project leaders in other Stantec offices regionally and nationally to identify and establish synergies for effectively marketing and developing business together.

  • Work with leadership to support the goal that growth strategies are effectively deployed and results are monitored.

  • Create, implement, and monitor tactical plans that are aligned with key business and strategic initiatives.

  • Proposal Development, including incorporating input and content from internal AE stakeholders.

  • Creates and orchestrates creation of Presentations for Client (and Future) Meetings

  • Strategizes with leadership team.

Drive Business

  • Partner with Leadership to develop and drive business development plans, budgets, and key performance indicators.

  • Strategically identify opportunities with owners, developers, contractors, etc.

  • Lead key pursuits, hand-off to practitioner once executed.

  • Drive new revenue growth across all markets throughout BC0672, with an understanding that you are passionate about science and technology.

  • Work with leadership to create an effective strategy that moves prospects through the sales process efficiently and effectively.

  • Track all new opportunities and potential client leads in Stantec’s proprietary application pipeline.

  • Develop and maintain list of key contacts.

Research & Strategy

  • Stay abreast of current market conditions and opportunities for new business.

  • Market analysis to inform our business strategy.

  • Attend industry meetings, events, and conferences to build a strong network, where needed; participate in a leadership capacity in industry organizations when warranted.

  • Grow the Stantec brand in the community.

  • Attend selected conferences and maintain active memberships in associations (such as board posts and committee memberships)

Client Relationships

  • Secure meetings with high-level decision-makers

  • Maintain existing client relationships.

  • Develop new client relationships.

  • Client Liaison

Creativity

  • Make time available to be “creative”. BD brainstorming

  • Proposal Development – creative use of graphics and organization.

  • Client Presentations – creative use of graphics and organizations

  • Assist in highlighting design and/or technical work and awards.

  • Collaborate with Marketing on local strategic pursuits, pre-positioning, and identification of key projects to highlight.

  • Collaborate with Public Relations

  • Push stories with local publications

Communication/Training

  • Conduct internal business development training, mentor others.

  • Inspire our team.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

  • Proven experience developing responses to detailed requests for proposals (RFPs).

  • Detail-oriented and organized, with exceptional prioritization skills.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and web-based interfaces.

  • Must have the ability to work independently and in cooperation with a larger team.

  • Must thrive working assertively in a deadline-driven environment.

  • Must be able to research and draw information from Stantec’s marketing database.

  • Develop proposal content working collaboratively with marketing team members.

  • Manage quality of product checking own work for accuracy and completeness.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, or related field

  • Minimum 7 years’ professional experience in marketing and business development within the buildings industry.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • SF Area $131,000 - SF Area $196,600 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CA (SF Area includes SF, SJS & WLC)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.

Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave. Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
