In this role, you will help develop cutting edge real world industrial applications. You will be responsible for developing the HPCi framework to support the GE Vernova application teams by maintaining and adding functionality to the HPCi platform to meet the specific industrial application needs.

The HPCi is a real time controller specifically designed and developed to provide the security, flexibility and performance functionality to support GE Vernova Power Conversion industrial applications.

The HPCI controller forms part of a framework of drivers and tools that can be used and extended to meet all the varied GE Vernova Power Conversion use cases.

The role will suit someone who is both passionate about embedded real-time development but is also excited about developing an entire software stack ecosystem.

In this role you will focus on:

  • Liaising and coordination with application teams about the current product and defining the present and future requirements.

  • Planning and designing improvements to the HPCI platform to meet those requirements.

  • Developing code to execute on the embedded platform as well as developing PC based tools to support the framework.

  • Supporting and maintain the present HPCi controller firmware and platform.

  • Developing drivers and libraries specific to the needs of industrial applications.

  • Developing and supporting industrial standard and bespoke protocols as required by the application teams.

  • Supporting and extending the P80i IEC 1131 compliant application development tools.

  • Developing industrial cyber security solutions to meet both international and industrial security standards.

  • Testing the HPCI framework both as a standalone unit, as well as part of application systems.

  • Liaising regularly with the worldwide HPCI development community.

  • Contributing ideas and suggestions about the future HPCI development within Power Conversion both locally and globally.

We are looking for a committed and professional individual with:

  • A relevant degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related technical field of study, or significant experience gained in industrial application engineering environment.

  • Experience in real time embedded software development in industrial automation systems, or similar.

  • Working experience of coding C/C++.

  • Development for modern real-time embedded environments such as VxWorks or embedded Linux, or similar.

  • Experience and understanding of modern processors such as x86, ARM, etc. and embedded device architectures.

  • Understanding of modern CI/CD processes and development practices such as Agile.

  • Good knowledge of network technologies such as IP stacks.

  • Good communication skills and ability to develop and present ideas to a wider audience.

What will make you stand out:

  • Understanding of modern industrial protocols such as Modbus, Profinet and IEC 61850.

  • An appreciation of the application cybersecurity uses in both the IT and OT environments.

  • An understanding of safety-based systems and their application

  • Usage of modern test environments such as TDD.

  • Experience in Windows Driver development.

  • Good problem solving and self-management skills.

  • Practical experience of driving product and system development.

  • Good writing and documentation skills.
