Position Summary:

Under direct supervision, performs a variety of work in the maintenance of roads.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs heavy labor jobs connected with road maintenance in accordance with safety standards including safety zone related activities & traffic control.

Operation of wheeled tractors, rollers, compactors, compressors, jack hammers, and two-axle dump trailer, &/or operate a two-axle dump truck, to haul highway maintenance material.

Patching, crack sealing, culvert cleaning, brush cutting, tree trimming, weed spraying, picking up trash, and other maintenance related work.

Completes daily paperwork & maintains vehicle log.

Load and unloads trucks hauling maintenance materials.

Knowledge, Skill & Ability:

Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions.

Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with others.

Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Demonstrates occupational safety and hazard practices and procedures.

Demonstrates good knowledge of traffic regulations and the practices applied in the care and safe operation of equipment.

Ability to be deployed to remote areas of the County and work in adverse conditions for extended periods of time.

Must be able to lift 50-100 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, up to 10-20 lbs. constantly and carry long distances up to 20 feet or more.

Ability to stand, bend or stoop repeatedly or continually over time.

Ability to walk over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces.
