JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Division of Student Affairs at Penn State Mont Alto, provides services and programs that are designed to complement formal classroom learning, enrich the collegiate experience, and promote student success. Student Affairs engages students in active learning and advocates on behalf of student needs and interests. Our mission includes the development of a learning community that is committed to justice, integrity, equality, civility, dignity, and responsible citizenship. W are currently seeking applicants for an Assistant Program Coordinator for career services.

Responsibilities

This position reports to the Interim Senior Assistant Director of Student Affairs. The Assistant Program Coordinator for Career Services is an opportunity for a graduate student to become an active team member in the delivery of direct services to students/alumni in the areas of Career Services. The position requires approximately 20 hours/week, which includes some evening and weekend hours. The primary responsibilities of the position are outlined below:

  • Serve as member of the Career Services team and hold regularly scheduled office hours.

  • Receive instruction on fundamentals of resume/cover letter writing, interviewing, job search strategies, and social media profiles.

  • Meet with students/alumni face to face and virtually to address career-related questions including career exploration, resumes/cover letters, interviewing, job search, graduate school, etc.

  • Create and deliver presentations on career-related topics for campus programming and classroom presentations.

  • Conduct outreach to recent alumni and gather data on their after-graduation plans.

  • Communicate with area employers in effort to expand partnerships and networking opportunities for Mont Alto students.

In addition to the Career Services duties listed above, the Assistant Program Coordinator will also be expected to:

  • Maintain an understanding of Student Affairs services and programs and assist with programming and special assignments.

  • Assist with program evaluation/assessment efforts as needed for Career Services and Student Affairs.

  • Support campus programming efforts by staffing Student Affairs sponsored programs and events.

  • Develop a relationship with students, faculty, staff and student employees that interact with the Offices of Student Life and Student Affairs.

  • Attend weekly staff meetings, monthly unit meetings, and staff retreats.

  • Attend weekly meetings with supervisor.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Learning Outcomes

  • Gain broad understanding of career assessment tools and career development theories and apply them when facilitating presentations and meeting with students.

  • Learn about and utilize variety of in-house and third party systems and career-related resources (Presence, Symplicity, InterviewStream, Qualtrics, and more.)

  • Develop an understanding of assessment and analyzing data from evaluations of programs and services.

  • Develop an understanding of multiple functional areas within Student Affairs.

  • Develop budget and fiscal management skills.

  • Enhance and apply the use of social media and technology through direct and indirect methods.

  • Enhance and develop critical thinking, communication, facilitation, teamwork, and leadership skills.

  • Apply and analyze student development theories through direct and indirect interactions with individuals and groups of students with diverse backgrounds, cultures, and values.

  • Demonstrate active listening skills, empathy, integrity and compassion in interactions with others.

  • Better understand and appreciate issues related to social justice and integrate a social justice perspective in professional functions related to programs and activities.

  • Learn how to work as a professional member of a student affairs team.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled full-time in a related undergraduate or graduate program, priority will be given to students interested in pursuing careers in Student Affairs/Higher Education

  • Must be student-centered.

  • Excellent communication (written and oral) interpersonal, technological and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities.

  • Ability to work independently and as member of a team.

  • Interest in working in Career Services or Student Affairs.

  • Interest in and ability to learn about individuals different other than oneself and ability to learn about ideas different then one’s own.

This job requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid US driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to the following 3 publicly available clearances:

• PA State Police Criminal Background Check

• PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form

• FBI Criminal Background Check.
