Monroe County ISD YOP- Youth Opportunity Program Program Assistant in Monroe, Michigan

Essential Duties:

  • Recruit and instruct students for the Jobs for Michigan's Graduates (JMG) program. JMG participants have a high degree of difficulty of being promoted into the next grade level, achieving graduation, and/or making a successful transition from school to a career.
  • Administer assessments including pre-/post-tests and career interest surveys.
  • Establish and implement a career development plan for all enrolled students.
  • Advocates for the program and develops job opportunities, participates in public relations activities, attends meetings, and speaks to various community groups.
  • Provides students with guidance, counseling, and support within appropriate limits; refers students to additional support services on an as-needed basis; takes responsibility for learning and complying with school policies such as mandated reporting, discipline, attendance, and the like.
  • Complies with all documentation requirements in a timely fashion including contacts and activities involving students, employers, and other groups; develops and maintains a well-organized filing system.
  • Assists students in finding and maintaining quality employment and/or post-secondary educational programs upon graduation; works closely with students and employers.
  • Participates in staff, regional, and statewide meetings, and staff development activities.
  • Assist Program Coordinator with activities related to youth payroll procedures.
  • Perform other functions as become necessary to effectively implement the Program as assigned by the Program Coordinator.
  • Tutor youth in the areas of math, language arts, science, and social studies at the high school level in preparation for the GED.
  • Oversee program referrals throughout referral process to program registration.
  • Administer academic assessments.
  • Facilitate program orientation meetings and monthly workshops.
  • Data entry and filing for Job's for Michigan's Graduates (JMG)
  • Maintain office supply inventory.
  • Must possess a good driving record.
  • Valid driver's license, proof of insurance and own transportation required.
  • Maintain regular, predictable in-person attendance.
  • Follow work rules.
  • Adhere to MCISD Guidelines and Policies.
  • Carry out all other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalent, required. Associate degree, preferred.

Experience:

  • Previous experience working with at-risk youth ages 14-24, preferred.
  • Previous experience working in employment and training.

Skills/Other:

  • Able to work independently.
  • Ability to work 12 months per year.
  • Ability to establish the appropriate boundaries while developing and nurturing supportive relationships with students.
  • Ability to educate a variety of constituencies and interested parties about the program by developing ongoing relationships and making formal presentations.
  • Meticulous records management skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer skills.
  • Knowledge of Monroe County.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform all duties with an awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
