How would you like to become a part of a team providing compassionate whole health care to Veterans? Responsibilities This Motor Vehicle Operator position is located at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The incumbent functions as a Motor Vehicle Operator. Major Duties: -Drives official cars and vans for the purpose of transporting authorized patients and passengers between the domiciliary and general hospital. -Maneuver vehicles over uneven terrain, congested areas, and improved roads with light to moderate traffic. -Operates vehicles up to 26,000 pounds on a regular and recurring basis. -Assists patients from vehicle to their scheduled destination. -Follows all safety directives applicable this position. -Operates engineering type equipment such as trucks, snow blowers, shovels, salters, and other gasoline driven grass cutting equipment. -Shovels snow from sidewalks and operates power snow blowers, sweeps roads and sidewalks. -Transports patients, members, and cargo to other VA facilities throughout Wisconsin and surrounding states. Work schedule: Full-time, Saturday-Wednesday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM, this position is considered emergency essential and may be required to work outside of his/her normal duty hours for snow emergencies. Alternate Work Schedule (AWS) available for qualified candidates. NOTE: The work requires a valid Wisconsin Driver's License and Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL). This license must be valid for: 1. Passenger transportation, 2. Air brakes, 3. Medical Endorsement. To be valid, your CDL must be registered at the DMV under the Tier system, per the Wisconsin State Law as of January 14, 2014. Qualifications EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. For the Motor Vehicle Operator position, you must have previous experience and knowledge that includes, but is not limited to safe operation of motor vehicles and other operated equipment in order to be able to make judgments concerning the load, breaking distance, and distance maintained from other vehicles; ability to perform safety checks on vehicles; knowledge of traffic laws on and off VA grounds; operating vehicles or tractor trailers up to 26,000 pounds; fill in, assist, or support higher graded motor vehicle operators; assists patients from vehicle to their scheduled destination; loads and unloads supplies and building materials from trucks; operates engineering type equipment such as trucks, snow blowers, shovels, and other gasoline driven grass cutting equipment; and maneuver vehicles over uneven terrain, congested areas, and improved roads with light to moderate traffic. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: This position is required to stand, sit, and bend. When loading and unloading trucks or when working on grounds maintenance tasks, the incumbent is required to lift 50 lbs. and occasionally works in cramped and fatiguing positions. Frequent stooping/bending and physical exertion may be involved when assisting into and out of the vehicle. Working Conditions: Work is performed in all types of weather, both indoors, in a vehicle, and outdoors. When driving vehicles, incumbent is exposed to traffic hazards, inclement weather conditions, and other various safety concerns. Depending on the tasks performed, safety equipment may be required.
