POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager / Senior Manager, Sustainability Europe functions as the expert and go-to person for all matters related to sustainable construction and renovation as part of Global Design EMEA, working with Design Managers and Project Directors to support their projects on sustainability aspects. These projects include managed, franchised and company-owned hotels and as a member of the team this role will bring subject matter expertise and advice to owners and franchisees; driving the commitment to wellness and sustainability and helping them to reach their sustainability goals and ensuring the successful completion of their projects.

The individual must be able to work independently, communicate externally and internally and partner with the key stakeholders of the company in continent and in HQ to support short- and long-term goals on carbon reduction and net-zero targets. The success of this position will depend on the ability to understand the complexity of the legislative landscape around sustainable construction in the European geography and beyond.

SCOPE

The Manager / Senior Manager, Sustainability provides design support for multiple hotel projects of appropriate scope and complexity.

• Location requirements: The Manager / Senior Manager Sustainability is to be located at the London, UK, Office or at the Eschborn office in Germany.

• Language Requirements: High proficiency (speaking, reading and writing) in English is required. Proficiency in other European languages is desirable.

• Travel Requirements: There is 40% business travel required.

EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS

Core work activities

• Provide advice and recommendations to clients on sustainable building practices and strategies.

• Review construction projects on their sustainability aspects

• Collaborate with clients to gather relevant data and information for assessment.

• Advice clients on 3rd party certification programs and the legislative framework

• Analyse building performance and identify areas to improve sustainability.

• Prepare comprehensive reports and documentation to support the advice to clients.

• Stay updated with the latest industry trends, standards and regulations related to sustainability.

• Manage the workload and report on projects internally.

• Actively contribute to documenting, maintaining, administering, and improving processes for delivering services.

• Present internally on progress and activities.

• Manage other consultants, their proposals, contracts, and invoicing to project objectives.

• Work closely with CLS (continental lodging services) and GDS (global design strategies) on company policies and goals.

• Provide information, interpretation, and guidance daily to outside owners / franchisees as well as internal design / construction staff for adapting brand standards to specific projects.

• Manage project communication to owners, franchisees, internal project stakeholders and disciplines.

• Participate in site visit/market surveys to develop better understanding of site/market demands.

Financial and Accounting Management

• Contribute to the creation of the project budget and manage to that project budget.

• Work closely with Global Design Accounting to manage projects within approved budgets.

• Prepare appropriate fee and expense estimates for Work Orders, DRA/TSA’s, and input on department budget planning.

Talent Management

• Assist with staff selection and performance management.

• Supervise, direct, motivate and train assigned staff.

Owner Relations

• Develop and maintain strong, mutually beneficial, trust-based business relationships with owners and franchisees to assure customer satisfaction and promote repeat business.

CANDIDATE PROFILE - KEY TALENTS AND EXPERIENCE DESIRED

REQUIRED:

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in assessing and advising on sustainability in the build environment.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

• Strong knowledge of sustainability principles, green building practices and energy efficiency

• In debt knowledge of the legislative framework in UK, Europe and beyond

• Familiar with relevant sustainability rating systems and certifications

• Proficiency in using sustainability assessment tools and software.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills and a good business acumen

• Problem solving & creative solution skills

• Ability to build strong working relationships

• Customer service skills

• Ability to negotiate and be flexible when appropriate

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

• Strategic thinking relative to the business

• Ability to read and interpret architectural, engineering and mechanical drawings

EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION:

• Degree in a relevant field such as Environmental Science, Engineering, or Sustainability
