JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Extension - Berks County Ag Center, is currently seeking a Part-Time 4-H Embryology Program Assistant. This position supports the Berks County 4-H team in providing high quality positive youth development program experiences for existing as well as new youth audiences through school programming. Primarily during school year, 20 hours/week. Applicant must be willing to work flexible hours.

Position Location: Penn State Extension - Berks County, Berks County Ag Center, 1238 County Welfare Rd, Ste 110, Leesport, PA 19533

Job Duties:

  • Teach 4 weekly embryology lessons and 3 agribusiness system lessons to county-wide school district classes enrolled in the 4-H Embryology Project during the four-week program.

  • Provide technical support to the enrolled classes in the areas of equipment operation and embryology incubation.

  • Arrange the schedule of classroom visits for each four-week run.

  • Coordinate pick-up and delivery of equipment and project materials.

  • Obtain enrollment forms and classroom fee at start of each classroom’s run.

  • Encourage teachers to incorporate the 4-H Embryology Project into their total classroom curriculum.

  • Assist with the new teacher training workshop and with the orientation of new teachers.

  • Assist the 4-H Extension Educator in reaching new audiences in accordance with the Penn State University Affirmative Action Policy.

Requirements and qualifications:

  • Possess an understanding of youth development and be able to effectively teach and interact with youth.

  • Possess knowledge of educational principles and presentation preparation skills.

  • Familiarity with the 4-H Program is preferred.

  • Understand basic biology to facilitate the embryology curriculum with proficiency.

  • Possess good communication skills needed for group presentations and individual communication with students, parents, and teachers.

  • Possess organizational and record keeping skills.

  • Have knowledge of educational principles and presentation preparation skills.

  • Must have valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and reliable vehicle. This position requires the applicant to operate a motor vehicle as part of the job duties. Successful completion of a motor vehicles record check will be required. Standard background check to work with minors are required as per Penn State hiring policies. Successful applicants will not be able to start work until those clearances have been received.

  • This job requires the following 3 publicly available clearances: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, FBI Criminal Background Check.
