Sargent & Lundy Intern - Construction Management in Leesburg, Virginia

Description

As a Construction Management Intern, you will be assigned to work on a project in our Electric Grid Infrastructure Services business unit and assist the Construction Management team members in the execution of their project work, on-site and in the field. These projects may involve the construction of new and/or modifications and upgrades to transmission, substation, distribution, renewable, and battery energy storage system engineering projects.

Working under the direction of construction managers, this internship will offer you the opportunity to utilize and expand your academic background in Construction Management in one or more of the following areas:

  • Support oversight of utility construction projects to ensure timely and efficient execution.

  • Aid in coordinating electrical infrastructure projects by assisting project managers with essential documentation including contracts, change orders, and purchase orders.

  • Assist in maintaining project schedules and tracking progress for electrical grid projects.

  • Engage in diverse tasks related to project reporting, including monitoring project activities, evaluating progress, and managing correspondence related to electrical grid infrastructure.

  • Participate in on-site activities, collaborating closely with electrical construction professionals to gain practical experience in various aspects of electrical infrastructure tasks.

    Please note that this internship position does not provide a subsidy for relocation expenses. This job will be a field assignment on a construction site, and you must provide your own transportation to/from the project.

Qualifications

Essential skills and experience:

  • Must have an expected graduation date in Fall 2024, Spring 2025, or Fall 2025 with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program

  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.

  • Self-Starter, proactive, able to work independently with minimal direction.

  • Ability to quickly identify and prioritize issues, create solutions, and meet deadlines.

  • Must have reliable transportation (Ability to pass a motor vehicle report) and valid driver’s license.

    Valued but not required skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated leadership experience within campus and/or the community

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred

  • Prior, related internship or co-op experience
