Lake County Government GOL! Program Assistant! in Leadville, Colorado

POSITION: GOL! Program Assistant.

DUTIES: This program is a primarily grant-funded initiative in Lake County. Our mission is to deepen our community's connection to the natural world by expanding equitable access to culturally informed and enriching outdoor experiences. Program Assistants provide entry-level support to groups of children (grades K-8) and/or families in year-round outdoor programming, while receiving extensive training and mentoring. Program Assistants may be involved in one or more than one GOL! program, including, but not limited to: Rockies Rock Adventure Camp: Assist in supervising a "crew" of 10-15 campers in a day camp setting under the supervision of GOL! Program Leaders Lead daily outdoor activities including: mountain biking, hiking, fishing, indoor rock climbing, canoeing and archery with support from activity specialists and under the supervision of GOL! Program Leaders Implement camp curriculum focused on environmental education, caring for the environment, nature play and creativity in the outdoors, leadership and teamwork and community connection, under the supervision of GOL! Program Leaders Create and teach environmental education lessons to camper crews with guidance from GOL! Program Leaders Deliver safe, enriching, and inclusive outdoor experiences for youth in their crew, under the supervision of GOL! Program Leaders Participate in weekly professional development with Program Assistant Teammates Attend mandatory trainings, including the Outdoor Leadership Training Week and Rockies Rock Staff Training Week This program is seasonal, running from June through August All GOL! Programs: Support Program Directors/Managers with outdoor-focused youth and family programs throughout the year including community event set up/take down, youth leadership, gear inventory management, etc. Create fun, positive, and engaging experiences for all participants, setting a high-energy and inclusive atmosphere for learning and s Learn and maintain risk management protocols and situational awareness to ensure safe, well-supported experiences Monitor and support physical and psychological safety and comfort at all times Communicate and collaborate to support social-emotional needs of participants Assist in maintaining accurate program records, including completion of daily attendance rosters, food distribution, gear checkout logs, and other reporting Capture photo and video media of activities Contribute to program logistical needs as needed and assigned, such as food delivery, equipment cleaning and maintenance, transportation support, etc. Reflect on performance and provide written and/or oral feedback to self and co-workers. Care for equipment used during programming. Adhere to County Employee Handbook, GOL! guiding resources, including the GOL! Program Leader Manual, and professionalism standards. Uphold Mandatory Reporting requirements and other applicable Childcare License expectations.

REQUIREMENTS: Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Suite and Google Drive.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must be 15 years old or older per child labor laws. Demonstrated ability to plan, lead, organize, and implement small group program activities within organizational risk tolerance. Sense of humor, resourcefulness, creativity, flexibility, and passion for connecting youth to the outdoors to inspire a lifelong love of nature. Strong written and verbal communication skills. PRFERRED: Proficiency in English and Spanish preferred. Preferred knowledge of the Lake County community and families. Preferred experience in youth programming, outdoor education, adventure education, Leave No Trace, and/or camp leadership.

WAGE: Compensation is $15.50 to $18.50 per hour with incentives for Spanish fluency, relevant experience, and WFA/WFR certification.

SHIFTS: This is a Full-time Non-exempt seasonal position Schedule will be Monday - Thursday approx.. 8:00 am - 4:00 pm., occasional work opportunities or requirements beyond this schedule for special events.
