Position Summary

Provide leadership, support and expertise in safety and health matters companywide, while developing and managing strategy and relevant programs to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Requirements Work closely with senior management, divisional safety and operations personnel to ensure strategic initiatives are properly aligned and executed throughout the business units in order to meet or exceed safety performance goals Ensure processes, programs, and procedures provide all employees with the tools and skills necessary to perform jobs in a safe work environment Develop/update health and safety policies, programs and systems Manage corporate vendors that provide health and safety services to Martin Marietta Develop and present safety performance metrics to executives and the Environmental, Health, Safety and Ethics Committee of the Board of Directors Provide guidance on matters related to compliance with OSHA as well as MSHA inspection, citation and assessment activity Develop, implement, and maintain safety compliance programs that ensure 100% compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations Inform operations personnel of existing and pending health and safety regulations/requirements, including reporting or action deadlines Assist in completing special information requests from regulatory agencies and representing the corporation in meetings with regulatory agencies Increase efficiency and effectiveness of safety managers Respond to requests by divisional safety staff for information or other assistance on specific health and safety matters Report to the Senior Vice President of Human Resources Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in safety, related area or equivalent experience required CMSP or CSP certifications desired Minimum 10 years of health and safety experience, preferably in a mining or construction environment Knowledge, Skills and Abilities In-depth applied knowledge of all facets of the modern safety function, including proven experience in behavior based safety processes, with a minimum of five years in a management role Previous experience managing health and safety issues on both local and corporate level across multi-state operations MSHA agency management experience, with OSHA/DOT experience a strong plus Ability to work effectively with senior operations management and field safety staff Strong organization and communication skills, both verbal and written Exceptional relationship building and influencing skills as well as the ability to win the confidence and trust of employees at all levels Demonstrated experience effectively managing consultants Proficient in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook) Able and willing to travel 30 - 55%
