INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST/OHS SPECIALIST

Introduction:

The Industrial Hygienist/OHS Specialist serves as a vital member of the Safety and Occupational Health branch at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing located in Fort Worth, TX. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity that offers unique exposure to tasks, environments, and safety concerns rarely seen in other industries.This position will consult with site management on Safety and Health-related issues and willreport to the Safety and Health Manager.

Position Title:Certified Industrial Hygienist

Duty Location:Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP)

Job Responsibilities:

  • Developing survey protocol outlines, cost projection; estimates, and tentative site visit schedules
  • Performing environmental sampling, to include air, water, fumes, gases, fibers and dusts or process by-product and waste materials
  • Providing sample analyses and interpret results
  • Conducting employee interviews, develop and administer questionnaires, and analyze and interpret results
  • Developing conclusions based upon current scientific methodologies and knowledge
  • Comparing findings to current standards or criteria
  • Providing concise, cost-effective, and health-protective recommendations that address deficiencies or problems observes or noted in investigations, studies and evaluations
  • Providing trip reports, interim reports, status reports and final project reports according to SOH guidelines
  • Performing quality assurance activities related to industrial hygiene investigations, studies, and evaluations, which may include calibrating industrial hygiene instrumentation; using appropriate sampling techniques, analytical standards, and blanks; and certifying that instrumentation, methodologies and techniques are consistent with acceptable professional practice
  • Performing exposure assessments utilizing qualitative or quantitative analysis
  • Maintaining the Industrial Hygiene program which includes the following support programs: Hazcom, Biological hazards, Indoor Air Quality, Ionizing and Non-Ionizing Communicating findings, results, conclusions, and recommendations of investigations, studies, and evaluations
  • Radiation, Respirable Crystalline Silica and the Chemical Hygiene Plan
  • Serve as consultant to BEP-WCF committees, work groups and task forces
  • Participating as a member of a multidisciplinary Safety team in providing industrial hygiene investigations, studies, and evaluations
  • Calibrate and use industrial hygiene sampling instrumentation via appropriate sampling methods
  • Actively promote healthy and safe work processes within the facility
  • Assist fellow health and safety team members with site safety initiatives and overall implementation of departmental goals
  • Participate in departmental meetings and program reviews

Required Qualifications:

  • Possess a BCSP certification required
  • Bachelor's degree in health, and safety-related field and5 years of experience in health and safety
  • Familiarity and prior interaction with regulatory agencies
  • Experience with developing and auditing policies and procedures
  • Experience developing and providing health and safety training
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Must be able to work flexible shifts which could include days, nights, and/or weekends.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience and knowle ge of Safety Management Systems
  • Experience in manufacturing and/or industrial setting

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Ability to work in dynamic climate conditions and a plant environment
  • Able to perform basic physical tasks (i.e., lift up to 50lbs, work while kneeling, squatting, sitting, climbing, and standing)
  • Follow and adhere to all applicable Personal Protective Equipment guidelines
