Program Summary

KBR leads the government services world contingency market by providing responsive, full-service logistics support to forces deployed around the world under the Logistics Civil Augmentation Program contract (LOGCAP). KBR’s enduring mission support of the LOGCAP program dates to 1992 when we served as the contract’s original prime contractor. Today, we have a workforce of over 6,000 people representing 40 nationalities who perform work on the contract in 14 countries.

The Tactical Vehicle Mechanic performs in accordance with ability to read and comprehend military Electronic and or Tech Manuals, to include lube orders and FMC (Fully mission capable) + Safety verifications. This includes determining and performing appropriate repair parts required, mechanical maintenance actions and repairs on various tactical vehicles, commercial vehicles, and equipment. The Tactical Vehicle Mechanic mentors and enhances the performance of co-workers and other personnel.

Performs and FMC + Safety verifications and determines repair parts required and performs mechanical maintenance action and repairs on various heavy and light tactical wheeled vehicles and equipment and their sub-systems IAW appropriate IETM and TM procedures and publications. To include all PREPO, Green and white Fleet. When applicable participates in the trades helper apprentice program including validating the work performed by trades helper apprentice. Effectively communicates with customers while conducting off site FMC + safety verifications during both Issue and Regeneration cycles. Generates and/or maintains both physical and electronic logbooks and records. Required to participate in various on-the-job and cross-training where required. Responsible for meeting the 95% regulatory and contract individual productivity requirement. Ensures all work is performed correctly the first time per technical manuals and other publication.

Performs scheduled and unscheduled mechanical maintenance actions on various materials and handling equipment such as but not limited to various types and sizes of forklifts (4k to 10k 40-ton Crane and RTCH240/250), heavy and light equipment transport trucks and trailers. Performs diagnostic tests, using measuring devices, instruments, test equipment, special tools and lifting devices, to identify mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and cooling system failures IAW appropriate procedures and publications. Operates/ tests various types of equipment and attached systems IAW appropriate procedures and publications. Repairs mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and cooling systems, and components, on equipment IAW appropriate procedures and publications. Removes, repairs, and replaces engine, drive train and body components of vehicles and equipment IAW appropriate procedures and publications. Prepares, maintains, and completes logs, records, and all NTC Inspection packets, etc. equipment IAW appropriate procedures and publications.

Ensures work areas meet contract and Company housekeeping requirements in that: the work area is leaned-out and only necessary equipment is present; the necessary equipment is set-in-place per the shop's standardization plan; and shined daily. Performs clean-up no earlier than 15 minutes before shift end unless otherwise directed. Supports/ participates in the KBR Zero harm Culture, absolutes and guidelines, Company Continuous Improvement Process (CIP) and QA program. Mentors and assists with on-the-job training and cross-training. Participates in training and cross-training sessions as required and necessary. Complies with all Company rules, policies, and procedures. Complies with all safety, environmental and quality standards, and applicable other SOPs. Actively participates in the master driver training program. Mitigates risk by always: wearing appropriate PPE; using ground guides when required; properly PMCSs all equipment; wearing seat belts when operating a vehicle; obeying speed limits; properly disposing and storing hazardous material; using three points of contact when required; and adequately stretch as needed.

Maintains accountability and provides proper care of all property and government furnished equipment. Favorably interacts with internal/external customers. Conducts daily inventory of assigned tools & equipment. Failure to perform this function may have serious consequences.

The performance of this function is the reason that the job exists. These are limited employees among whom the performance of this functions can be distributed. This function is highly specialized. Employees are hired for the skill/ ability to perform this function. This function occupies a great deal of the employee’s time. Performs other duties as assigned.

Applicable Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Must understand and be able to use technical manuals/IETM and schematic diagrams.

  • Field of Expertise: Mechanical inspection, maintenance and repair of light, medium and heavy tactical/commercial vehicles, and equipment

  • Must be able to speak, read and write English fluently.

  • Writes performance evaluation comments and reports when places in a control/ assignment directive role.

  • Must have two and one-half (2 ½) years verifiable experience in inspection, repair, and maintenance on military combat/ tactical wheeled vehicles and their sub-systems/ MKT unit/ various trailers/ various generators and other equipment, OR

  • Must have two and one-half (2 ½) years verifiable experience in inspection, repair, and maintenance on Civilian semitruck tractors and trailers and heavy-duty construction type equipment is included.

  • Relevant experience must include at least six (6) months experience in the current position except when employees are promoting to a higher rated position.

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)

Additional Skills or Experience Preferred:

  • Extensive knowledge (ASE and CERTIFICATES of completion -preferred) on power and drive train, brakes, electrical and fuel systems with two and one-half (2 ½) years verifiable maintenance experience (lubrication tasks not included).

  • Tactical Wheeled Vehicle maintenance experience preferred.

  • Education in lieu of working experience may be considered under the following conditions:

  • Completion of an Associate’s Degree or higher in the Automotive Technology Field from an accredited institution

  • Proof of completion by providing a college graduate certificate and transcripts of course completion.

  • Completed education must have been within the last 5 years.

Additional requirements:

  • Work under stressful circumstances and meet shorts suspense dates.

  • Must be physically capable of performing the work in conditions of extreme temperatures, low humidity, rain and blowing sand and dust.

  • Mechanics assigned to a PREPO Shop works in various storage yards, the Issue Yard / RSOI, the RUFMA Yard / REGEN, and various test tracks and other areas were the PREPO Equipment moves.

  • Employee shall utilize all proper lifting procedures and practices associated with all lifting and material handling tasks that are assigned and associated with this job description.

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds unassisted.

  • Must be able to team lift up to 50 pounds in a two-person carry.

  • Use crowbars, brooms, mops, sledgehammers, and related items.

  • Must be able to stand, stoop, crawl and climb as necessary to perform job functions using proper techniques and PPE for extended periods to include confined spaces.

  • Must be free of medical restriction/ limitations that prevent the wearing and utilization of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • Must be physically capable of performing the work in conditions of extreme temperatures, low humidity, rain and blowing sand and dust.

  • May be required to work on uncommon hours of duty, extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license and be able to obtain a military operator’s permit for each type of vehicle or equipment required to operate.

  • Must be able to meet CMF criteria in accordance with DA PAM 611-21 and AR 601-210 and AR750-1

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40

Basic Compensation: $41.95 per hour

The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.
