The Physician Assistant MEB/IDES will perform services in an out-patient environment, possessing qualifications meeting or exceeding currently recognized national standards as established by the Joint Commission. Provide the highest consideration to patient dignity and observe the percepts of the American Hospital Association’s “Bill of Rights for Patients”.

Responsibilities

  • Generate and maintain proper medical record on beneficiaries to whom treatment is provided IAW AR 40- 66, Medical Records.

  • Take part in clinic Quality Assurance Program as required to meet the standards of the Joint Commission.

  • Responsible for maintenance of the highest standards of professional care in the treatment of patients and in the teaching and training of residents and technicians.

  • Prepare and document appropriate history, physical examinations and diagnosis.

  • Maintain documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with hospital directives and prepare such records and reports as may be required by the contract; ensuring all documentation and reports are legible.

  • Coordinate with other departments of the medical facility staff to provide complete care to patients.

  • Provide and document medical advice to patients by telephone as appropriate and in accordance with MTF protocols.

  • Provide clinical direction to supporting government personnel assigned to their area during the performance of clinical procedures.

  • Consult with supervisor and/or colleagues regarding problems either professional or administrative.

  • Responsible for the quality and the timeliness of treatment records and reports required to document procedures performed and care provided.

  • Serve on hospital committee(s) if necessary as directed by Deputy Commander of Clinical.

  • Participates in clinical education programs and in clinical staff quality improvement functions as prescribed by the Deputy Commander for Clinical Services.

  • Comply with the MTF quality control program and the standing operating procedures of the MTF.

  • Participate in clinical and quality review processes as determined by hospital policy.

  • Will be required to go TDY to attend NARSUM Writing Course.

  • May occasionally be required to travel.

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited university within respective profession.

  • Possess and maintain a current, active, valid unrestricted state license to practice medicine in one of the 50 states in the United States, or the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.

  • Possess current Board Certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Applicable diploma and proof of membership in the NCCPA is required.

  • Possess and maintain Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) in accordance with Hospital Policy.

  • Minimum one (1) year experience (within the last three (3) years) routinely practicing as a Physician Assistant (PA).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to become familiar with the hospital formulary and prescribe pharmaceuticals according to the drugs listed.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain privileges at Carl R Darnall Army Medical Center (CRDAMC) through approval of the Credentials Committee.

  • Ability to complete and maintain a National Agency and Local Check (NCCLC) background investigation.

  • Ability to meet Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements.

  • Ability to type and have had experience using computers, especially Microsoft programs.

  • Possess sufficient initiative, interpersonal relations skills and social sensitivity such that he/she can relate constructively to a variety of patients from diverse backgrounds.

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers.

  • Possess sufficient training/experience to be able to adequately diagnose and treat acute diseases and injuries to include but not limited to the following: Skin Pulmonary System, Head, Gastrointestinal System, Eyes, Musculoskeletal System, Ears, Genitourinary System, Nose, Reproductive System, Throat, Lymphatic System, Neck, Central Nervous System, Cardiovascular System, Endocrine System.

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee may use repeated motions that include the arms, wrists, hands and/or fingers.
