Position: Certified Nurse Midwife

Location: Travis AFB

Employment Status: Full-Time

Compensation: Salaried position, paid bi-weekly

Schedule: Mon-Fri, various shifts, not to exceed 44 hours per week

Qualifications:

  • Degree: Master's or Doctoral degree in nursing.

  • Education: Graduation from an accredited master's or doctoral degree program in nursing. Completion of an accredited educational program for advanced practice as a certified nurse midwife.

  • Certification: Certified by the American Midwifery Certification Board. Current ACLS or ALS, Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification, Fetal Heart Advanced Monitoring certification, and completion of the Emergencies in Clinical Obstetrics course or Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics Program.

  • Experience: As required to meet clinical competency requirements specified in the Service-specific credentialing instructions.

  • Licensure: Current, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse and advanced practice level license as required by the US jurisdiction of their RN license.

Job Summary:

  • Consults with on-call physicians and co-manages high-risk patients as appropriate.

  • Manages antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care of low-risk obstetrical patients.

  • Performs first assist duties during cesarean deliveries.

  • Rounds on all assigned inpatients at least once daily.

  • Institutes lifesaving emergency measures pending obstetrician-s and pediatrician-s arrival.

  • Documents patient care and all admissions and discharge summaries in accordance with established MTF procedures.

  • Renders comprehensive care to women from menarche through menopause; plans and manages prenatal, postpartum, well-woman gynecological, family planning, and preconceptual care.

  • Performs first trimester ultrasound evaluations for pregnancy dating and limited third trimester ultrasound for amniotic fluid assessment, fetal presentation, cardiac activity verification, and placental location.

  • Requests diagnostic tests as clinically indicated; analyzes and interprets laboratory and radiological reports.

  • Prescribes medications as required, in accordance with privileges and MTF rules and regulations.

  • Consults with OB/GYN physicians and other specialists for complex cases. Refers to specialty care as appropriate.

  • Documents pertinent patient information, assessment, and plan electronically as required.

  • Facilitates postpartum patient-s physical and psychological transition to parenthood.

  • Counsels parents on normal growth and development of infants.

  • Provides guidance and encourages acceptable health practices.

  • Manages gynecological conditions and performs annual health screening examinations.

  • Orders and evaluates tests to detect disease processes.

  • Provides family planning counseling and various methods of birth control.

  • Reviews and documents telephone consults regularly.

  • Attends and participates in high-risk obstetric and quality meetings.

  • Collaborates with health care team members to improve patient care delivery.

  • Performs all care in accordance with individual privileges awarded by the Medical Treatment Facility credentials committee.

  • Participates in peer review activities.

  • HCW will immediately notify the government supervisor or commander upon completion of credentials, certificates, and education listed above to schedule training classes for appropriate staff members.
