What can you expect?

As the Plant Operator (soil washing), you will report to our office in Fairbanks, Alaska, but may mobilize to projects in a variety of locations, including the Lower 48 or remote and austere environments. You will utilize your knowledge of aggregate washing equipment and/or water treatment systems to conduct daily plant operations and perform routine and specialized maintenance and repair in support of soil washing environmental remediation projects, including for per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Your personal initiative, critical thinking skills, safety awareness, and a high level of mechanical aptitude are essential to complete job duties with minimal guidance. You must be able to set priorities, take ownership of project tasks, work efficiently as part of a team, and provide a consistent level of high quality in a fast paced and high-pressure environment.

How will you do it?

  • Operate, maintain, and repair a variety of industrial equipment, including feeders, conveyors, rotary and/or vibratory screening plants, jig plants, coarse and fine material washers, clarifiers, hydrocyclones, filter presses, and other equipment commonly used in the aggregate mining industry.
  • Coordinate machine operations with other site personnel, including heavy equipment operators, other Plant Operators, and environmental scientists and engineers.
  • Learn and follow all applicable safety regulations, monitoring operations to ensure that health and safety standards are met.
  • Take actions to avoid potential hazards and obstructions, such as other equipment, other workers, and falling objects.
  • Communicate with clients.
  • Study plans, diagrams, manuals, and Standard Operating Procedures to establish work requirements.
  • Provide assistance to field management and supporting staff in the field.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge and proven experience in operation and maintenance of large-scale aggregate mining equipment.
  • Knowledge of construction machines and tools including their uses, repair and maintenance, and practical applications.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to deal effectively with a variety of interpersonal relationships and situations. Specifically, the ability to communicate with others to train and develop, evaluate problems, and to explain equipment status in an understandable manner.
  • Ability to properly wear, use, and maintain personal respirator equipment and other forms of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Basic knowledge of hazardous waste regulations.
  • Possess good housekeeping skills with attention to detail on environm ntal hazards to reduce personal exposure and potential spreading of hazardous contaminants.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to learn and understand the Company's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Ability to evaluate, troubleshoot, and conduct field maintenance and repairs of mechanical systems.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ability to maintain skills as technology advances.
  • Ability to do business ethically with customers, vendors, and co-workers.
  • Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.

Who is Brice Engineering looking for?

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; completion of related vocational training preferred.
  • Documented experience in the operation and/or repair of aggregate mining equipment.
  • Must have a current valid driver's license and be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of Brice Environmental Services Corporation's Driving Policy.
  • Must pass employment drug and background check.
  • Must be able to pass a security screening for access to U.S. Department of Defense installations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • OSHA 30-hour certification preferred.
  • 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations certificate with current 8-hour refresher preferred.
  • Experience with Site Health and Safety functions a plus.
