COMPENSATION: $105/dayfor new hires, $120/day returning staff

  

SUMMARY

Camper Support Coordinators provide direct support to campers who need extra support while at camp, and work with other camp staff to create plans to support campers. Theyare responsibleforsupportingthemental,emotionalandsocialhealth needsof campers, with the aim of helping everyone to feel safe, happy, and comfortable whileensuring the supervision and safety of campers at all times. Camper Support Coordinators are supervised by the Camper Support Directorand perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Supervises andassistswith specific camper supervision.Ensures that all staff are accounting for campers and safety at all times, especially campers who need extra support. 

  2. Works closely with unit directors,assistant directors, medical team staff, and cabin counselorsprovidingresources, suggestions, and direct support for campers who need extra attention due to behavior, health (mental and physical), or life circumstance. 

  3. Communicates directly with parents, guardians, or case workers pro- and re-actively to gaininsightfor working with specific campers and to give updates on the campers' experience. 

  4. Maintainshigh standardsof housekeeping including bathrooms,cabinsand main lodge. 

  5. Assistsin keeping all program equipment in working condition and available. 

  6. Assistsinmaintainingall program areas in a safe and orderly condition. 

  7. Maintains detailed reports and accounts of all work with campers, families, and staff 

  8. Communicatespersonalor camper/staff needs to supervisorin a timely manner. 

  9. Attendsmeetingandtrainings. 

  10. Responds to mental, emotional, or social health-related emergencies 

  11. Maintains relevant American Camping Association standards

  12. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and corrective action situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies. 

  13. Other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This joboperatesat a seasonal residential camp, both inside and outdoors.  This job operates at a seasonal residential camp, both inside and outdoors.Staff typically live in either shared cabins with campers, or in shared and housing with staff for the duration of employment. Specific housing depends on position and availability.

  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

  

While performing the duties of this job, the employeeis regularly required totalk orhear. The employeefrequentlyis required tostand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift store or janitorial products and supplies, up to 50 pounds. 

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This seasonal camp position is exempt from minimum wage and overtime regulations per State of Washington wage and hour law. 

  

TRAVEL

This position isrequiredto live onsite at camp. All travelrequiredfor work will be done by YMCA Authorized Drivers.

Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  1. 18 years old or older

  2. Current certifications in CPR and First Aid

  3. 1-2 years of experience with children; camps, childcare, tutoring, nannying, coaching 

  4. Ability toparticipatein activities that involve rigorous physical activity in an outdoor setting including, but not limited to hiking, boating, camping, and swimming. 

  5. Ability to relate to parents/caregivers, campers, and staff in a professional manner.

If applicable, other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience whichprovidethe knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

  

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Twoor more yearsofapplicableeducation, training, and experience, whichprovidethe knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered. 

  2. Work or life experience or education in social work, mental health counseling or related fields

  3. Knowledge of andpreviousexperience with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.  

  4. Experience with anti-racism practices and coalition building
