Job Summary

Langan is seeking a Senior Project Landscape Architect to join our collaborative team in Chicago, IL. The primary role of this individual will be to help grow Langan's new Chicago Landscape Architecture + Planning (LA+P) Studio. This leader will be an engine of growth and a key part of Langan's continuing success in the Midwest, building upon an established, award-winning 20+ year national landscape architecture practice that is rooted in 13 studios nationwide. In this role, you will have the opportunity to provide leadership and technical expertise in Chicago and the Midwest region, contributing to the successful execution of a diverse portfolio of waterfront design, urban revitalization and streetscape, smart growth planning, community design, retail and commercial site planning, healthcare and university campus design, rooftop gardens, green infrastructure, and brownfield redevelopment assignments. While the role is highly entrepreneurial, this individual will also be supported with robust corporate resources for a successful integration and career at Langan, including support from and collaboration with landscape architecture and engineering principals and associates across the firm.

Job Responsibilities

  • Interface and foster professional relationships across Langan’s Chicago and Midwest offices and LA+P group leadership in the planning, designing, and permitting of landscape architecture, land development and planning projects;

  • Regular travel to other Langan offices to collaborate with Langan leaders and clients;

  • Travel to project sites and attend meetings throughout the state as required to support our project assignments and obtain entitlement approvals;

  • Attend professional business development and professional events throughout the state as required;

  • Grow the firm’s LA+P brand regionally and expand the team’s landscape architecture capabilities in Chicago and the Midwest;

  • Establish and grow relationships with existing and potential clients, attending business development meetings with the goal of developing long-term client relationships;

  • Participate in the identification and pursuit of new clients with other Langan leaders;

  • Prepare proposals, negotiate and secure contracts, and develop additional work on existing projects;

  • Become well-versed in all Langan services for internal coordination, cross-selling and overall project coordination purposes;

  • Identify, cultivate and recruit the professional talent required to grow our Chicagoland practice with Langan Human Resources and LA+P leaders;

  • Interact extensively and builds strong relationships with clients, contractors and other professionals; and

  • Oversee project and studio financial performance, invoicing, collections, etc.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture; Master’s degree preferred;

  • 15+ years of related industry experience; existing client relationships and the ability to transition business to Langan is a plus;

  • Illinois Landscape Architecture license in good standing with additional licensure / certification(s) in other states, with credentials in planning, irrigation, arboriculture, etc. considered a plus;

  • Project experience that demonstrates strong local plant knowledge throughout the Midwest hardiness zones;

  • Strong technical writing skills;

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (word, excel, PowerPoint, etc.), Revu Bluebeam and Adobe Acrobat;

  • Aptitude for working collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team environment;

  • Ability to work independently and effectively communicate scheduling and deadlines with other managers, principals and associates; and

  • Possess reliable transportation to access job sites and a valid driver’s license in good standing.

  • A passion for design excellence, creating inspiring places, and delivering a high-level of service to our clients;

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills;

  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to communications and responsiveness to client needs;

  • Ability to communicate effectively; and

  • Practical experience with current local, county, state and federal land-use permitting.
