Job Description:

Parsons is adding to our environmental services team! We are hiring a junior level environmental scientist or geologist with 0 to 3 years of experience with a desire to support various projects across the country in all aspects of environmental investigation and remediation, including emerging contaminants such as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Staff may be remote, or could be based in Boston, Austin, Denver, or Atlanta (other locations may also be possible).

Willingness to perform field work and to travel to field sites (up to 70% of the time) is a key element of this role. Over time, the position will shift to more office-based work and less field work as your career is propelled forward.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform various field and office tasks requiring the application of basic scientific principles and geologic fundamentals.

  • Perform soil, surface water, groundwater, and sediment environmental sampling.

  • Support data management tasks in the office, including tabulating data.

  • Assist with the drafting of technical documents, such as work plans and remedial investigation reports.

  • Execute field projects with health and safety as the top priority

  • Complete field documentation such as activity hazard analysis (AHA) forms, project field reports, field notes, sampling records, and chain-of-custody forms

  • Participate on multiple teams simultaneously working on varied projects pertaining to investigation and remediation of hazardous wastes in the environment, and/or other hazardous, toxic, and radioactive waste contamination.

Required

  • 4-year degree in environmental science, geological sciences, or related discipline.

  • Demonstration of success working in a team environment and being an excellent team player.

  • Strong communication and writing skills - an example of an authored writing assignment may be requested.

  • Working knowledge of software packages typically associated with scientific investigations and reporting.

  • Willingness to travel to project sites and perform field work up to 60% of time.

Desired – commensurate with education and experience

  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training, or ability to obtain upon hiring.

  • Environmental sampling experience of soil and groundwater using multiple sampling techniques and field equipment.

  • Master’s Degree in geology, or related discipline.

  • Desire to grow into a leadership role supporting environmental investigations and remediation.

  • A valid driver’s license, the ability and willingness to travel to and from field locations up to 70% of the time

  • Should be able-bodied as the work requires some physical exertion such as extended periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; lifting; recurring bending or similar activities

  • Work in adverse weather conditions (e.g., hot, cold, rain, snow)

Salary Range:

$21.44 - $37.55
