Geotechnical and Mine Engineering Manager

Be part of the nation-s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste.

Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as aGeotechnical and Mine Engineering Managerto join our team located in Carlsbad, NM.

The successful candidate will integrate mining and ground control activities for the WIPP Underground. Responsible for safe, compliant, and timely integration among organizations personnel. Successful candidate must be able to coordinate multiple activities, supporting long-term planning with other operations groups. Will provide bi-weekly ground control updates to the Department of Energy. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) compliancy.

  • Coordination of ventilation configurations for daily operations.

  • Provide oversight, and updates of project completions or outages.

  • Lead a weekly Underground Coordination meeting for future infrastructure needs.

  • Integrate among the supporting organizations for development of installations, refurbishments, or rehabilitation of infrastructure in areas identified.

Exempt Salary Grade (34-36)

Minimum Requirements:These requirements must be met to be considered for this posting. Uploaded resumes and applications are the means of determination.

  • Bachelor-s degree with nine (9) years of related experience, or

  • Associates degree with thirteen (13) years of related experience, or

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent with seventeen (17) years of related experience is required.

  • Nine (9) years of related mining experience and five (5) years of management experience is required.

Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

Higher education attainment than listed acceptable per internal level identifiers of accompanying years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Operations Management with a Bachelor-s Degree.

  • Budget oversight experience for operating expenses and capital expenditures.

  • Knowledge and understanding of 30 CFR coupled with good working relationship with MSHA inspectors from local and district field offices.

  • Use and familiarity of Excel spreadsheets.

Minimum salary $109,803 per year of a larger salary range --the specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate-s relevant experience and education.
