MTC Pharmacy Technician in Calexico, California

Position Summary:

Reports administratively to the health services administrator and clinically to the physician. Responsible for organizing and maintaining pharmacy operations for the facility. The pharmacy technician utilizes appropriate skills in delegating, educating and evaluating nursing staff to ensure that the pharmacy program operates in compliance with MTC Medical and the customer directives.

Essential Functions:

  1. Receive and document medications, abiding by applicable state and national regulations.

  2. Ensure drug room security, replace facility working drug stock and maintain the upkeep of the facility drug room and pharmaceutical equipment.

  3. Enter medication compliance into the pharmacy computer system. Ensure that MARS are accurate and recopied as required.

  4. Practice basic cost containment and utilization management for patient care and facility operations. Perform quality assurance on all medication orders, narcotic/sharps counts, and MARS as applicable,

  5. Maintain a current inventory of all supplies at established PAR levels.

  6. Re-order needed supplies, ensuring all purchase orders are maintained in a log book. Match all invoices to purchase orders to ensure all items have been received.

  7. Set, with appropriate guidance, and maintain PAR levels. Maintain all pharmacy orders, logs and documentation.

  8. Serve on call for issues with pharmacy or pill call.

  9. Maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records; observe applicable HIPAA rules.

  10. Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed; provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedures and intervention techniques.

  11. Maintain accountability of staff, detainees and property; adhere to safety practices.

It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Graduate from an approved Pharmacy Tech program. Must have valid registration in state of California. Minimum of one (1) year pharmacy technician experience. Must possess current CPR certification. Must be at least 21 years of age. Valid drivers license in the state of California with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.

Post Hire Requirements:

Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements and maintain appropriate facility clearance.
