Job Summary/Basic Function

About This Role:

This position will work with the Title IX Coordinator and focus on Title IX complaint intake and providing supportive measures to the Lamar University (LU) and Lamar Institute of Technology ( LIT ) communities, including: Developing and maintain intake process for Title IX reports and complaints, including organizing and maintaining records of reports/complaints that come to the Title IX Office and ensuring all reports are appropriately addressed according to LU and LIT policy Coordinating LU and LIT’s efforts to provide supportive measures and interim safety accommodations for complainants and respondents, including working with various divisions of both institutions such as Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, Human Resources, and University Police.

What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities

  • Track and timely respond to each report of sexual or other discrimination reported to the Title IX Office, including follow-up and closing matters, as appropriate and in accordance with University policy. Determine proper classification of complaints and/or reports according to University policy, accurately record such determinations, and make appropriate referrals.

  • Timely communicate with, provide information to, and answer questions of complainants, respondents, and reporters of sexual discrimination, including proactive follow-up as necessary. Oversee and effectuate the provision of supportive measures and other information to complainants, and respondents in Title IX matters. Work productively from multiple locations on Lamar and LIT campuses; move between Lamar and LIT campuses to interface with students, employees, administrators, and other Title IX personnel.

  • Maintain knowledge of and effectively communicate and coordinate with various institutional units, employees, and officers to facilitate the provision of supportive measures to students and employees, including but not limited to, faculty, student housing, student affairs, human resources, university security and law enforcement, student health services, and others.

  • Understand data management processes and maintain comprehensive and organized files, including operating a case management system that allows for the identification of patters, trends, and other pertinent analysis and producing reports of such data as requested.

  • Manage individual student and employee support services cases independently of the investigation and adjudication process. Accurately identify and manage potential conflicts of interest in cooperation with the Title IX Coordinator, VP of Strategic Initiatives and Community Relations, and legal counsel.

  • Excellent customer service and relationship management skills with the ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, diplomacy, tact, and business acumen.

  • Knowledge of federal and state anti-discrimination laws and University policies and procedures related to gender and other forms of discrimination.

  • Ability to interpret and accurately apply University policies and procedures.

  • Accurately identify and manage potential conflicts of interest in consultation with the Title IX Coordinator, VP of Strategic Initiatives and Community Relations, and legal counsel.

  • Ability to effectively navigate ethical complexity and conflicts of interest.

  • Ability to remain composed, focused, and neutral in managing conflict and difficult situations.

  • Communicate effectively via phone, video conference, and in person.

Physical Requirements:

Will be responsible for performing various administrative and clerical tasks to support the smooth operation of the department. Must be able to:

  • sit and/or stand for extended periods

  • use a computer accurately and efficiently

  • read and write documents on a computer screen, including for extended periods of time

  • communicate effectively with colleagues and clients both in-person and by phone or remote means

  • regularly move between and productively work at various office locations and meeting spaces on Lamar University and LIT campuses; manipulate small objects;

  • lift light office supplies when necessary

    Job Conditions:

Typical schedule is M-F 9am-6pm, with some occasional after-hours work. This position supports Lamar University (LU) and Lamar Institute of Technology ( LIT ) Title IX Office and Title IX compliance efforts and may occasionally work outside of normal business hours.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A BS/BA degree from an accredited college/university strongly desired; or equivalent work-related experience may be accepted.

  • 3 years of relevant experience in Title IX, social work, counseling, or case management.

Preferred Qualifications
