The Role

  • Database Design: Design and implement the database architecture for our EduTech project, considering the scalability, performance, and security requirements of the system. Ability to understand existing SQL design, ER diagrams and SQL stored procedures used in current systems for enabling migrations.

  • SQL Expertise: Demonstrate extensive working experience in SQL design for large systems, including the ability to design, normalize and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures and schemas. Understand existing SQL designs and systems to plan for successful database migrations.

  • SQL Stored Procedures Conversion: Utilize modern programming languages such as Python to convert existing SQL stored procedures into code that can be executed programmatically. Translate business requirements and logic embedded in stored procedures into maintainable, reusable and efficient code.

  • Data Integration and ETL: Design and implement data integration processes, including Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) workflows. Develop scripts and programs to extract, transform, and load data from various sources into the database.

  • NoSQL Databases: Possess a strong understanding of NoSQL databases (e.g., DocumentDB, DynamoDB, MongoDB) and their appropriate use cases. Utilize this knowledge to design and implement efficient data models using NoSQL technologies wherever applicable.

  • AWS Cloud: Utilize your expertise in AWS cloud services, particularly in relation to database management and optimization, to effectively deploy and manage databases in a cloud environment.

  • Performance Tuning: Optimize the performance of databases, including query optimization, index optimization, and other performance-enhancing techniques. Monitor and analyze database performance using appropriate tools and take proactive measures to ensure optimal performance.

  • Scalability and High Availability: Implement database solutions that can scale seamlessly to handle increasing data volumes and ensure high availability and fault tolerance.

  • Data Security: Implement and maintain robust security measures and access controls to safeguard the integrity and confidentiality of EduTech project data.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with the development team, infrastructure team, and other stakeholders to understand requirements, provide guidance on database-related matters, and ensure the successful integration of the database architecture with the overall system.

  • Documentation and Best Practices: Document the database architecture, design decisions, and best practices to ensure proper knowledge transfer and maintainability of the system.

Who You Are

A minimum of 12 to 15 years of professional experience working as a Database Architect and Programmer or a similar role, preferably in a large-scale, complex system environment.

Technical Expertise:

SQL Design: Extensive experience in designing and optimizing SQL databases, with a strong understanding of relational database concepts and best practices. Working experience with PostgreSQL is preferred.

Programming Proficiency: Proficiency in modern programming languages, such as Python, or Node.js, for converting SQL stored procedures into executable code.

Data Integration: Familiarity with data integration techniques and ETL processes.

NoSQL Databases: Familiarity with NoSQL databases, such as MongoDB or DynamoDB, and practical experience in utilizing them effectively in relevant scenarios.

AWS Cloud: Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services, particularly in the context of database management and optimization. Familiarity with AWS RDS, Amazon Aurora, and DynamoDB is highly desirable.

Performance Tuning: Proven expertise in database performance tuning and optimization techniques, including query optimization, index design, caching strategies, and partitioning.

Database Security: Knowledge of database security best practices and experience in implementing appropriate security measures, such as encryption, access controls, and data masking.

Soft Skills Expertise:

Problem-solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve complex database issues and optimize database performance. Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, and the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

Educational Qualification:

  • Essential: Postgraduate or above in Computer Science/Applications
