Johns Hopkins University Research Program Assistant II in Baltimore, Maryland

The Department of Neurology is seeking a Research Program Assistant II to provide support, under the direction of Pediatric Neurology, for multiple research projects for pediatric neuromuscular diseases such as spinal muscular atrophy and Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

The position assists in project planning, and ensures that pre-established work scope, IRB-approved study protocol, and regulatory requirements are followed. Recruits and coordinates research subjects, as appropriate. Develops and maintains recordkeeping systems and procedures. Under the supervision of the Research Program Supervisor and direction of the investigators and study team members, the Research Program Assistant II will help with various activities vital to the large research study of spinal muscular atrophy and Duchenne muscular dystrophy. This position offers opportunities for training and advancement.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist research subjects and/or volunteers, as appropriate to specific study objectives and work scope.

  • Implement and maintain data collection and analysis systems in support of research protocols including the management of data, paper files, and electronic databases.

  • Aid in the smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of research and data collection activities incompliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other relevant patient privacy statutes.

  • Coordinate the shipping of specimens.

  • Recruit, instruct, and coordinate research subjects and/or volunteers, as appropriate to specific study objectives and work scope.

  • Follows day-to-day activities in the carrying out of research protocol, as appropriate to the position; mayperform aspects of research protocol, as required, in accordance with specified program objectives.

  • Maintains records of research activities, and prepares periodic and ad hoc reports, as required by investigators and/or regulatory bodies.

  • Data entry in study database, resolving issues with missing data.

  • Obtain clarification or corrections, collect missing data.

  • Create a log of missing items from study material using the checklist.

  • Communicate with research coordinators for the data management.

  • Organize and maintain research files.

  • Apply understanding research participant insurance coverage and providers.

  • Assist staff with patient visit scheduling and escort patients during study visits.

  • Pack and unpacking material and equipment for transportation to/from screening events which will include some lifting of equipment.

  • Support project lead in designing study forms.

  • Support other research activities.

  • Prepare study visit paperwork.

  • Prepare study recruitment and education materials.

  • Operate basic office machines.

  • Lend general support to office as needed, including filing, record keeping.

  • Perform miscellaneous related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.

  • Two years related experience.

  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Starting Salary Range: $15.50 - $26.00 HRLY ($43,160 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
