Johns Hopkins University Research Assistant in Baltimore, Maryland

We are seeking a Research Assistant who will be responsible for coordinating, managing, and implementing the research activities of the Child Development Lab. Following routine protocols under the supervision of faculty investigators and/or senior postdoctoral fellows, the Reseach Assistant performs some data analysis tasks, schedules and tests participants in experiments, maintains records of research participants, codes data, maintains equipment, assists other researchers in the lab (graduate students and post docs), and manages the general administration of the lab.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement recruitment efforts to obtain participants for research studies.

  • Schedule research participants for testing.

  • Participate in running the testing of research participants.

  • Coding behaviors of research participants.

  • Occasional testing of participants in their homes and/or schools.

  • Hire and train undergraduate research assistants.

  • Supervise current undergraduate research assistants while they interact with research participants.

  • Ensure that lab space is kept clean and organized.

  • Order supplies and equipment as necessary.

  • Liaise with PBS administrative office as necessary regarding financial- or facilities-related issues.

  • Maintain subject database.

  • Data entry and analysis.

  • Maintain IRB documents, including consent forms for all research participants.

  • Assist postdoctoral fellows and graduate students in all aspects of research preparation, testing research participants, and coding data.

  • Actively participate in lab meetings and group discussion.

  • Collaborate with lab members on current and ongoing projects.

Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of research protocols and understanding of experimental design.

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a research team.

  • Ability to supervise undergraduate research assistants.

  • Interpersonal skills to interact with research participants (infants and young children) and their families.

  • Ability to enthusiastically and professionally support developmental research.

  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel), email software (MS Exchange or similar), Adobe, web content management software.

  • Understanding of basic statistical analysis is a plus.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.

  • Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous research experience, particularly working with human participants.

  • Supervisory experience.

Starting Salary Range: $17.00 - $30.00 HRLY (Commensurate with experience)

Employee group: Full Time

Schedule: Monday - Friday/9:00a.m. - 5:00p.m.
