Amentum Welder- Light Construction Crew in Baghdad, Iraq

The Light Construction Crew Welder will be based at one of three Amentum sites in Iraq and serve the (Light Construction Crew) under the Operations and Maintenance Support Services (OMSS) contract in support of the U.S. Department of State. The selected candidate will take ownership of all facility welding and related fabrication projects and will report to the LCC Project Manager. The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.

DUTIES:

  • Maintains welds on various items using a variety of welding processes such as; arc, tungsten inert gas, metallic inert gas, and brazing.

  • Repairs metal surfaces (doors, drain covers, fences, motorized gates, grates, railing, furniture, tools, parts, etc) for the purpose of ensuring safe and efficient use of items.

  • Installs various welded items for the purpose of completing projects safely and within established time frames.

  • Maintains shop, equipment, tools, vehicles, etc. for the purpose of ensuring the availability and functioning of required items.

  • Coordinates with supervisor and other trades personnel for the purpose of completing project/work orders efficiently.

  • Request’s welding supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items.

  • Assists other trade personnel as required.

  • Responds to emergency situations as needed and /or assigned for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.

  • Transports various items to job site.

  • Works under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods.

  • Must be able to operate equipment used in welding and metal fabrication.

  • Must be able to plan projects; prepare and maintain accurate records; and adhere to safety practices.

  • Must be able to perform Algebraic, Geometric, and Trigonometric calculations,

  • Maintains effective, timely and respectful communication and interaction with other employees, manager, and supports other organizations.

  • Performs other administrative tasks when directed, including material ordering, inventory, work scheduling and other administrative report preparation.

  • Responsible for facility custodianship of work area and management of tools, equipment and spare parts for the welding/fabrication operation.

  • Must be able to take initiative to analyze a situation and to make frequent technical decisions based on specifications, safety and schedule.

  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of metal fabrication and welding experience .

  • Experience in reading and interpreting architectural and engineering (A&E) design drawings is required.

  • Knowledge of applicable US Codes and acceptable trade practices.

  • Knowledge and experience regarding occupational hazards of the welding trade, related safety precautions and the considerable skill required for welding and the use of welding equipment.

  • Knowledge in the discipline of operations and maintenance (O&M) projects in a desert environment preferred.

  • Must have good organizational skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions.

Education :

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.

  • A certification by the American Welding Society (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Welding_Society) (AWS) D1.1, is required.

Passport, Licenses and Certifications:

  • As part of pre-contingency requirements, by the time the visa process starts , candidates must possess a valid passport of home country with a minimum of 18 months remaining to expiration date with 8 blank pages.

  • Valid drivers’ license from Home of Record.

Security Vetting : An active DOD or DOS Secret clearance as required by the position. Must maintain eligibility at the required security level for the duration of the contract.

Language Skills: Strong professional English communication skills.

Medical: Favorable passage of a drug screen and physical examination.

DESIRED:

  • Previous welding experience in an OCONUS environment with a multi-national workforce is desirable.

  • Experience working with Amentum.

  • Experience working with SOW, shop drawings and blueprints.

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of ALL principles and processes involved in operating and supporting Welding/Fabrication functions at an overseas facility.

  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer services.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules.

  • Cross-cultural sensitivity with an international perspective.

  • Above average computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Ability to become an active and functioning member of a team.

  • Must have the ability to be innovative and be an agent for change.

  • Expert communication skills to facilitate and disseminate information.

WORKING AND LIVING CONDITIONS:

This position may be located in a war zone, in an environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be exposed to extreme and austere desert-like environment. Temperatures can reach 120- 130 degrees Fahrenheit/50- 55 degrees Celsius during the summer months. Employees must be willing and able to perform regular job requirements in this austere, extreme environment, as well as willing and able to deploy to Iraq for extended periods. Work schedules are a minimum of 6 days per week and 10 hours per day, while some jobs have higher daily and weekly minimums. Employees must be willing and able to perform physical activities including, but not limited to, heavy lifting and moving of items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum; climbing in and out of equipment; crawling; and working outdoors. This includes being able to lift and carry 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time and being capable of running and ‘duck & cover’ during emergencies without putting oneself or others at risk.
