Assistant Secretary for Housing-Federal Housing Commissioner Program Support Assistant in Albany, New York

Summary This position is located in the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Asst Secretary for Housing-Federal Housing Commissioner. Responsibilities As a Program Support Assistant, you will: Assist the Branch Chief, servicing and technical staff in matters pertaining to the Federal Claims Collection Act of 1966, as amended; the Debt Collection Act of 1982, and the Debt Collection Improvement Act of 1996. In this regard, the incumbent is also required to have a working knowledge of applicable handbooks, program policies and procedures governing a wide variety of program activities that require processing review and action. Act as the control point for servicing and technical staff in coordinating and tracking actions initiated and completed by maintaining the appropriate tracking, follow-up, and suspense registers, logs and reports. Keep appropriate staff informed on these matters by providing regular reports of status with alerts of any activities or problems requiring resolution. Review all incoming submissions from program participants and others for completeness as to information and/or materials requested and required. Log submissions as necessary and refers to appropriate staff for review and action. Submissions are referred with background and supporting documentation, as required. Requirements Conditions of Employment The official duty station for this position will be in Albany, New York. Failure to report to duty at this location may be grounds for a disciplinary action, including removal. Key Requirements: Must be U.S. Citizen or U.S. National. A one year probationary period may be required. Must successfully complete a background investigation. Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required. Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency. Qualifications You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. Specialized experience for the GS-06 is one (1) year of experience at the GS-05 level, or equivalent, which is directly related to the position as listed in this announcement and has equipped the candidate with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position successfully. Specialized experience is defined as: Maintaining filing systems, including receiving, reviewing, logging and processing financial information, documents and reports; AND Preparing correspondence, responding to routine non-technical inquiries and providing routine general program information; AND Utilizing standard computer software such as Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook or similar. Specialized experience for the GS-07 is one (1) year of experience at the GS-06 level, or equivalent, which is directly related to the position as listed in this announcement and has equipped the candidate with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position successfully. Specialized experience is defined as: Preparing correspondence, responding to technical inquiries and providing technical program information; AND Experience using specialized information and database management applications and formats; AND Utilizing standard computer software such as Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Access and Outlook or similar; AND Providing financial-related customer service to both external and internal clients. Experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Time-in-Grade: In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-06, you must have been at the GS-05 level for 52 weeks. For the GS-07, you must have been at the GS-06 level for 52 weeks. Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a non-temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.
